| What if I’m absent? | The debate still happens when you’re absent. The bench fills your role. Submit your prep by the deadline if you can, and tell the Forge Coach before the session. The Forge Record will show the gap, and your Anvil will draw on the work you completed. |
| What if I hate my assigned position? | You don’t have to agree with your assigned position. You do have to defend it with evidence. A position you dislike may sharpen your argument because you cannot rely on your first reaction. If the evidence changes your mind, say so in your Forge Reflection. |
| What if I need another way to participate? | Tell the Forge Coach privately before the Arms Room, or use the course’s private check-in. You are guaranteed an equivalent route: a live role, recorded or read-by-mentor contribution, or text-grounded written seminar contribution. You do not have to disclose a diagnosis or private reason to the room. The same claim–evidence–impact criteria apply. |
| What if I think the other side is morally wrong? | Test the position anyway. Your own argument gets stronger when you can answer the best case against it. Build the strongest case the evidence allows. The jury decides which side argued better. If the debate turns personal, return to the exact question. |

When Something Goes WrongFAQ

| What if I never changed my mind? | You aren’t required to change your mind. You are required to explain why the evidence did not move it: “They needed to prove X, but they only showed Y.” If your position holds all year, it may become your Anvil thesis. |
| What if I don’t have a “story”? | Choose a small case, character, or real-world decision that makes the trait visible. Name the choice, consequence, and cost. Use the Weaver’s prompt as a frame, but do not retell the debate question. |
| What if I’m behind on the book? | Tell the Forge Coach privately and make a catch-up plan. Your reading status is never announced and never encoded in your public role. You still receive an equivalent way to contribute text-grounded evidence. Bench is universal backup preparation, never discipline. |
